Phase I of Cross Winds® Energy Park -- owned by Consumers Energy -- began operating in 2014. This 111-megawatt wind energy facility reinforced the image of the region known as “MI Green Thumb.”

Consumers Energy is committed to being a good neighbor in Tuscola County. The Cross Winds® Energy Park project brings employment, economic and tax benefits to the area.

Cross Winds® Energy Park was designed and built in compliance with wind zoning ordinances created to protect the health, safety, and welfare of nearby residents.  In the fall of 2016, Akron and Columbia Township planning commissions, where Cross Winds® Energy Park is located, reviewed and approved the special use permits and site plans for Phases II and III.

Phase II construction of Cross Winds® Energy Park is scheduled in 2017 with a target date for commercial operation in early 2018.  This phase will add 19 wind turbines and 44 megawatts of production capability to the overall facility.  Following completion of Phase II, a third phase will likely be constructed in 2019 to increase the production capability by another 76 megawatts by 2020.
